What is Hard Fork?
A hard fork is a significant update to blockchain protocol’s software. With a hard fork update, the rules for creating a block changes, rendering new blocks incompatible with old rules; splitting the blockchain into two separate networks.
For example, Ethereum was hard forked, resulting in Ethereum (ETH) a forked blockchain, and Ethereum Classic (ETC) the original blockchain. The forked blockchain with new protocol rules will eventually replace the original one.
