What is a Cryptocurrency?
A cryptocurrency (or crypto) is both a digital currency and an asset. All cryptocurrencies use blockchain technology. And most of them use decentralized blockchain. Bitcoin is the first decentralized cryptocurrency.
Unlike fiat currencies issued by the government, most cryptocurrencies have no central authority to govern them and have no blockchain owners.
Cryptocurrencies use cryptography for security, which makes counterfeiting, double-spending, and manipulation extremely difficult.
